‘Maths in Motion’ Day at Guilsborough Secondary School
Congratulations to our Year 5 team - Euan Mackay, Jasmine Needham, Tanya Coxon and Ciaran Bennion. They worked hard together in competition against the other cluster schools and came first! The team will go on to the next round in March. They had to apply their skills of mathematics and design technology as well as collaborative abilities to achieve this success.
Step back in time to the Tudors!
On Friday, 12th February 2010, Blue and Green classes took part in a wonderful Tudor day. We experienced learning all about the Tudors. One of our activities was looking at Tudor medicine. We passed around leeches in a glass container and Steve Bacon (from Live’n’ history) showed us the tools the Tudors would use to cut off arms.
We also did some cooking, we made a Tudor rose out of marzipan. We made a maid of honour cake and some pottage. The Tudors didn’t believe in washing so they carried around tuzzie muzzies, hand lotion and face masks. We looked at and drew Tudor artefacts, plus we wrote with quills and we enjoyed some Tudor dancing.
Thanks to Mrs. Wakeley who organised the Tudor day and all the other staff and parents who helped out.

Tudor Day
A big thank you to all the parents who helped us make a success of our Tudor Day. Also many thanks to Mr. David Farrow, who supplied enough logs to keep the fire burning all day!

School Jumble Sale and Tombola
Thursday 11th March, 3.45pm
Please remember to have another look for any jumble items to help us with the school jumble sale and also spread the word to neighbours and friends! All jumble can be brought into school during school opening times.
On Monday 11th March, pupils can wear non-uniform (Mufti) as a reminder to bring in a tombola item, i.e. bottles, tins or chocolate.
Many thanks for your support.
World Book Day Thursday 4th March
Each class will be doing different literacy activities focusing on children’s books. We are inviting all children to mark the day by bringing in their favourite bedtime story book and dressing up in their pyjamas and dressing gowns (a teddy bear and cushion are optional!) for a ‘relaxing read’. Pupils will need to wear t-shirts or even sweatshirts underneath, depending on the weather, in order to keep warm. Trainers will be permitted for school wear on that day.
Blue Class and Orange Class will be asked to bring their ‘outfits’ to change into for the afternoon on Thursday and to wear school uniform as usual for the morning as their classes are having formal lesson observations first thing.
FOCS Bingo Night
FOCS will be holding a family Bingo Night on Saturday, 20th March. The doors will open at 6.30 p.m. with eyes down at 7.00 p.m.
FOCS Barn Dance
Many thanks to everyone who came along and supported, what turned out to be, a great fun-filled evening. The band ‘Barberella’ and caller Tom, ensured that we all danced more than I think we intended! The children who came were a credit to themselves and added to the atmosphere of the whole event.
