Text Messaging – test runs
Over the next two/three weeks, we shall be taking advantage of a free trial with Teachers2Parents. This is a text messaging service which FOCS will be purchasing on the school’s behalf. We need to test that the service works for different groups of children and for the whole school before the end of term. Its main purpose is to improve our communication with parents/carers in the case of a school closure or the cancellation of a club. If your child is in more than one school club, you are likely to receive more than one test text message. Please ensure the school has your up to date mobile numbers on record.
Premises
Next week, work will begin on the re-furbishment of the Library and the ICT suite. We are aiming to centralise our school resources into the ICT suite and to have a new bay of computers just outside Mr Bushell’s classroom. There will be some disruption; the Library and the ICT suite will be out of bounds for all of next week. The Library will eventually be re-decorated with some new furniture and most importantly – new books! We intend to open our school Library up to our pre-school customers in the new school year.

Sickness and Diarrhoea
There have been several cases of these symptoms with pupils this week. The Local Authority’s advice for schools is to advise parents/carers to keep their child at home until they have been free of symptoms for 48 hours. They should then be fit to return to school again.
Indigo Class trip to Natural History Museum
On Monday, Indigo class spent the day in London at the Natural History Museum. They visited the “In The Deep” exhibition and got to look in most sections of the museum at a range of fascinating things including dinosaurs, mammals and creepy-crawlies. They had a wonderful day and behaved extremely well, representing the school in a positive way. In addition, we had a trouble-free journey in and out of London – a rare event indeed!

Year 3 & 4 Kwik-Cricket
Last night, a group of 8 pupils represented the school at a Kwik-Cricket tournament at Guilsborough School. They played 3 group matches, winning all of them, against Welford, Clipston and Naseby.
This put them top of the group and into the final against Guilsborough, the other group winners. A close game went the way of Guilsborough by just 3 runs, leaving Crick as runners-up.
The team did extremely well, played some wonderful cricket and displayed a sporting attitude.
Finally, a big thank you to all parents who helped with transport to and from the event and waited beyond the expected finishing time of 5pm. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to predict the length of a cricket match even if it is supposed to be “kwik”!
The team was: Joe Hardbattle, Ethan Kent-Whittaker, Harry Bardell, Ashleigh Hoggard, Kyran Pitts, Adam Kerr, James Needham and Corey Parker.
Year 3 & 4 Kwik-Cricket Club
A quick reminder to all members that this club is on as usual on Monday 21st.
Crick Tennis Club
All the children have had a ‘tennis taster’ session at school today, courtesy of Crick Tennis Club. Martin Walker arranged for a Lawn Tennis Association Coach to teach each class. Please see their flyer advertising forthcoming activities for children.
Music Tuition – KS2
There will be some places available for music tuition offered by the County Council’s Music Service from September. If your child is interested, please collect a form from the school office.
If your child already undertakes tuition, they will automatically continue their lessons in September.
Teddy Bears Picnic
Last Friday, we held our first ever Teddy Bears Picnic and Disco for all the Foundation and Key Stage 1 pupils. We had a good attendance and the children (and their teddies!) enjoyed their picnic and the disco dancing competition! Many thanks to our resident DJ Steve Bates for providing the music and to all those that helped on the night, it was greatly appreciated!
‘SpeedMark’ Event
Please find attached a sponsor form to support our forthcoming ‘SpeedMark’ event. Children in Years 1 to 6 will be able to find out how fast they can strike a ball into a giant, inflatable goal.
The children took part in this a couple of years ago and had some great fun. It also helped to raise funds for school PE equipment. It is your choice to sponsor or not, but all pupils from Years 1 to 6 will have a go!
Serious Incident in Crick
There are posters up in the village describing an incident which took place in Crick on Tuesday 15th June. Two youths, (possibly Year 11 age) threw bricks/stones from the footbridge onto moving vehicles, causing considerable damage and danger. The incident occurred between 5:30pm and 5:40pm. If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the police on 0300 111 222, crime ref. no. 371 / 376.
