‘Moving Up Morning.’ Monday 5th July

All pupils line up in this year’s classes on the playground at 8:55am.  They are registered in their normal classes and then they are called to a meeting in the Hall.  After a short talk from me, the children go the class that they will be in September 2010 for the morning.  Playtimes and lunchtimes are the same.  Year 6 pupils not going to Guilsborough on Monday report to Mr Bushell for register, then they will be acting as helpers to the teachers for the morning.

The present staffing will stay the same for next year.

Year 6 Transition Day to Guilsborough

For Year 6 pupils going to Guilsborough on 5th July, we have been given the following advice:

Please ensure all students coming to Guilsborough School bring their inhalers or medication with them.  Students are allowed to keep inhalers on them at all times including during PE activities whilst at Guilsborough School.  If any students take medication during the day they need to hand it in to Student Services with a letter from their parent or carer explaining the dosage and reason for taking it and most important up to date contact numbers.

Kitchen Equipment

Thank you to Mr Mackay, (one of our parents), for supplying the newly formed ‘Let’s Get Cooking’ with so many brand new items of kitchen equipment.  This has been very generous and very useful.

Derngate Dance Concert, Northampton

Pupils of Blue Class performed an adapted version of their ‘Danse Macabre’, first shown in their class assembly at the Derngate Theatre, last Tuesday evening.  This was a first time for us, and Mrs Wakeley was extremely pleased with the children’s behaviour and performance.  We were ‘in the middle’ in terms of performance standards which is a commendable first try. Mrs Wakeley, assisted by Miss Capel and Mr Rowe also supervised the pupils as they walked to a nearby pizza restaurant for a well-earned meal.  Well done everyone and many thanks to parents and carers who helped again with transport.

Blue/Indigo Class Production

Please note that we have had to change the performance dates to Tuesday, 13th July at 2.00 p.m. and Wednesday, 14th July at 6.30 p.m.

Magistrates Visit Indigo Class

On Tuesday, Indigo class were visited by Angela Wilson-North and Bridget Harries, two Magistrates from Daventry Magistrates Court. Pupils had the chance to learn about the organisation of a Magistrate’s Court and the jobs performed within one. They also took part in a Mock Trial, with pupils playing the parts of witnesses, magistrates, defence and prosecution solicitors, legal advisor, and of course, defendant. Pupils were able to discuss whether the verdict was guilty or not guilty – a very tricky decision after some fairly balanced evidence!

The visit was very useful for the children’s understanding of how parts of our wider society work and how justice is carried out at a local level. Pupils asked some excellent questions and all learned a great deal.

District Sports Field Events

On Tuesday, 8 children from Years 3-6 took part in the District Sports Field Events at Abbey Junior School, Daventry. They took part in the long jump, high jump and javelin. Pupils put in a large amount of effort and enjoyed the experience of competing against other schools. Outstanding performance of the day went to Leon Martin-Evans, who finished second in the Year 3 and 4 long jump, consistently jumping over 3 ½ m. Well done also to Lachlan Pidgeon, Jamie Kerr, Riley Pitts, Beth Sinclair, Tierney O’Grady, Kyran Pitts and Isabel Morrish who all competed well.

Finally, a big thank you to parents and carers who (yet again) supported the children and/or helped with transport. We couldn’t do it without you!

Orange Class

The children had a marvellous time at the zoo on Tuesday and they will be out and about in the village at various times between now and the end of term as part of their geography studies.  My thanks to the teachers and teaching assistants for organising and caring for the pupils whilst they are off-site.

Gifted and Talented Days

Some of our Year 3 pupils have been offered the opportunity within the cluster of local schools to attend Gifted and Talented Days for Art, ICT and Literacy.  Mrs Wakeley prepared the Literacy Day for the cluster here on Monday and they seemed to be having a great time.

Key Stage 1 Multi-Skills

On Monday, 9 children from Key Stage 1 attended a multi-skills morning at Guilsborough School. They took part in a variety of activities that focussed on their agility, balance and co-ordination skills, such as shuttle runs, throwing events, jumping and hoopla. A pleasant and active morning was had by all children, including the chance to eat lunch on the field afterwards!

Well done to all those who attended: Euan Peasland, Edward O’Grady, Toni King, Alexandra Kent-Whittaker, Joshua Broadhead, Hannah Turley, Kory Adnitt, Bebe Pidgeon, Bethany Pearce.

Also, thank you to Mrs Anscombe who attended this event with the children, and to all parents and carers who helped get the children to and from Guilsborough.
