I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents and carers for their support to our school, and for the edible presents given to the staff this week for the end of term.  It has been appreciated!  On behalf of the staff and governors, I would like to wish our families a happy and healthy holiday time and look forward to seeing you on Thursday 2nd September for the start of the new school year.

Sports’ Days

Thankfully the weather held and we were able to run both Sports’ days this week.  Thank you to all the pupils, parents, staff and governors for their help and to Mr Wilf Sims for organising the marking of the athletics’ track.  Giant Pandas were the winning House team for KS2 sports this year – well done!

Sing Up!

Miss Jacqui Gridley has been visiting our school and teaching all our children, staff and governors, to enjoy their singing.  Miss Jacqui is herself a professional singer and teacher (contact details 01788 822375 or e-mail

diva.gridley@tiscali.co.uk).

The children learnt to sing in several different styles, in multi-part harmonies and one song, unaccompanied.  I would like to thank Miss Jacqui for making our end of term such good fun.  The singing assembly on Wednesday was changed several times and I am sorry that it was omitted from the newsletter diary.

End of year BBQ

Just a reminder that doors open this evening at 6pm, with the food being served from 6.30 approx. Should you just wish to come and hear Aday sing and join in the fun, then adults are £2 and children £1. We will have a soft drinks bar, but please remember to bring your own wine and beer. There will be some tables and chairs, but if you could bring your own seats that would be much appreciated. See you there!

Current Year 4 / 5 West Runton Residential Visit

The response for the proposed visit next May has been very good and we can confirm the trip will go ahead.  A final cost will be given at the start of next term.

Government Cutbacks

Minor Weir and Willis Ltd is the supplier and distributor of the Schools Fruit and Vegetable Scheme to our school.  They have just informed us that the government has ended the scheme early this week, with no notice.  The government is also undecided whether to carry on this scheme or not.  Minor Weir and Willis Ltd along with other fresh produce companies are now lobbying the Secretary of State to gain clarification.  The company is also urging schools and parents to join in the protest.  They would like us to write to:

Rt Hon Andrew Lansley

Secretary of State for Health

Department for Health

Richmond House

79 Whitehall

London

SW1A 2NS

Surely, it would be a backwards step to take away the opportunity for our children to eat fresh fruit and vegetables at school?
